Banded Lateral Walk

Video: “How to do Lateral Band Walking” by National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) on YouTube. Plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.

How to do it

Side steps with a small band around your legs to strengthen the sides of your hips. 20 reps is 10 steps each way.

  1. Put a mini band just above your knees or around your ankles.
  2. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent, in a quarter squat.
  3. Step sideways, keeping tension in the band.
  4. Take 10 steps one way, then 10 back.

Tips and safety

  • Keep your toes pointing forward and your feet from snapping together.
  • Stay low and keep your upper body still.

Move within a comfortable range and stop if you feel pain. If you have an injury or health condition, check with a qualified professional first.
