Video: “Bodyweight Squats | How To | Proper Form & Technique” by FITTR on YouTube. Plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
How to do it
The basic squat strengthens your thighs and glutes and helps with everyday movements like sitting down and standing up.
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, toes turned slightly out.
- Reach your arms forward for balance and brace your stomach.
- Push your hips back and bend your knees to lower down, keeping your chest up.
- Go as low as is comfortable with your heels down, then push through your feet to stand.
Tips and safety
- Keep your knees in line with your toes.
- Squat to a chair and stand back up if you're just starting.
- Breathe in on the way down and out on the way up.
Move within a comfortable range and stop if you feel pain. If you have an injury or health condition, check with a qualified professional first.
