Video: “How to do Reverse Lunge | Joanna Soh” by Joanna Soh on YouTube. Plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
How to do it
Stepping backwards into a lunge is often easier on the knees than stepping forwards, and it still strengthens your thighs and glutes. 10 reps is 5 on each leg.
- Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
- Take a long step backwards with one foot and lower your back knee towards the floor.
- Stop when both knees are bent at about 90 degrees, front knee over the ankle.
- Push through your front foot to step back to standing, then switch legs.
Tips and safety
- Hold a wall or chair for balance if needed.
- Keep your upper body upright.
Move within a comfortable range and stop if you feel pain. If you have an injury or health condition, check with a qualified professional first.
