Video: “How To Do A Seated Shoulder Press” by PureGym on YouTube. Plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
How to do it
A seated press that strengthens your shoulders and triceps. Sitting with back support helps you keep your back in a safe position.
- Sit on a bench or chair with an upright backrest, feet flat on the floor.
- Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height, palms facing forward and elbows slightly in front of your body.
- Brace your stomach and keep your back against the backrest.
- Breathe out as you press the dumbbells up until your arms are straight above your shoulders, without clanking them together.
- Breathe in and lower them slowly back to shoulder height.
Tips and safety
- Don't arch your lower back to push the weight up; choose a lighter weight instead.
- Keep your wrists straight and stacked over your elbows.
Move within a comfortable range and stop if you feel pain. If you have an injury or health condition, check with a qualified professional first.
