Video: “Exercises with an Athletic Trainer: Standing Calf Raises” by Children's Hospital Colorado on YouTube. Plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
How to do it
A simple exercise for stronger calves and ankles that you can do anywhere.
- Stand upright with your feet hip-width apart, holding a wall or chair for balance if needed.
- Push through the balls of your feet to raise your heels as high as you can.
- Pause at the top for a second.
- Lower your heels slowly back to the floor.
Tips and safety
- Control the movement both up and down, and avoid bouncing.
- For more challenge, do them on one leg or with your heels hanging off a step.
Move within a comfortable range and stop if you feel pain. If you have an injury or health condition, check with a qualified professional first.
