Walking Lunges

Video: “The Walking Lunge” by CrossFit on YouTube. Plays in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.

How to do it

Lunging forward step by step strengthens your thighs, glutes and calves and improves balance. 20 reps is 10 on each leg.

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and hands on your hips or by your sides.
  2. Take a long step forward with one leg and lower your back knee towards the floor.
  3. Stop when both knees are bent at about 90 degrees, front knee over the ankle.
  4. Push through your front foot and bring your back leg forward into the next step.
  5. Keep alternating legs as you move forward.

Tips and safety

  • Keep your upper body upright and your front knee in line with your toes.
  • If balance is hard, do the lunges on the spot, stepping back to the start each time.
  • Make sure you have clear space in front of you.

Move within a comfortable range and stop if you feel pain. If you have an injury or health condition, check with a qualified professional first.
